During 1982, Petherbridge was artist in residence at the City Art Gallery in Manchester and celebrated the many Victorian buildings that were then being done-up in the city. This was also the year of the Falklands War, reflected in the large-scale black and white drawings, Theatre of War and Debris of War. Drawings commenting on war continued to be made in 1984 and were exhibited in the touring exhibition Geometry of Rage.
The work was exhibited in Deanna Petherbridge Drawings 1968 - 1982 at Manchester City Art Gallery, November - December 1982 and Warwick Arts Trust, London January – February 1983
